Kindergarten Registration and Open House - Feb 6, 2018

Owatonna Public Schools will soon be taking registrations for this fall's kindergarten class.  To start school in the fall, your child needs to be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2018, complete an early childhood screening, and have all immunizations as required by the State of Minnesota.


Our Community, Our Schools - Oct 5, 2017

We have eight great schools, over 900 incredible staff, and just over 5,000 outstanding students and numerous community education programs OurSchoolsfor residents of all ages.  We are so incredibly fortunate that our community supports our education system.  Your ongoing support helps to keep Owatonna a vibrant community.  Thanks to voter approval in 2015, we are now celebrating the opening of Owatonna Middle School and McKinley Elementary.  Both buildings have undergone major renovations to improve the learning spaces for our 21st century learners.  We are also in the process of improving Lincoln Elementary and Washington Elementary to improve the learning environments and add valuable learning space.  Our newly named "Owatonna Education Center" is home to Early Childhood Special Education and our Area Learning Center.


Is there school today? How to find information about school closings due to inclement weather - Dec 5, 2017

In case of school cancellations due to weather, we will again be using our "instant alert" system this year to inform parents and students as soon as a decision is made.  You can also tune into the local radio stations, TV stations and our website.  If you are a social media user, you can also follow Superintendent Jeff Elstad on Twitter@Otownsupt761 who will be tweeting information.  In addition, our Owatonna Public Schools Facebook page will also be used to get the information out to you.


School Board Endorses Owatonna Forward Destiny Drivers - Jan 4, 2018

At the January 25th school board meeting, the school board formally endorsed two Owatonna Forward   Destiny Drivers as a part of our strategic plan moving forward (a third education-related driver is being led by the Chamber of Commerce). The two drivers, or goals, are:

School Board Recognition Week - Feb 19, 2018

The Minnesota School Boards Association has set February 19-23 as School Board Recognition Week in Minnesota as a time to build awareness and understanding of the vital function an elected board of education plays in our society.  Owatonna Public Schools is joining all public school districts across the state to celebrate School Board Recognition Week to honor local board members for their commitment to Owatonna and its children.
